Culpepper resident Connie Scott, 64, is facing multiple charges after making quite an entrance at a Sheetz convenience store in Stafford during an early morning pitstop in front of members of the sheriff’s office.
Shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, officials say that a sergeant and deputy were called to the Sheets parking lot on Washington Square Plaza, where there was a complaint for a separate incident.
While investigating, officials say that Scott was oblivious to the police presence at the store, and he came in speeding in a black Lincoln Navigator that abruptly stopped and parked on a diagonal in front of the business.
As deputies concluded their investigation into the original complaint, they were caught off-guard by Scott, who they say was unsteady on his feet and actually fell to the ground in the parking lot.
Then a new investigation was launched.
According to the sheriff’s office, Scott explained to deputies that he was “coming from Virginia” and it was then determined that he had shoplifted some snacks from Sheetz before stumbling toward his Lincoln.
Scott proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.
He was taken into custody without incident and charged with:
- DUI third offense in 10 years with a BAC between .15 and .20;
- Driving revoked;
- Shoplifting;
- Drinking while driving.
Scott is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office had a simple message to the community: “drive sober or get pulled over.”
